Step Up to the Microphone!
A FREE & FUN Workshop Series
for Middle Schoolers & High Schoolers at the
East Lyme Public Library
Gain
confidence and experience by mastering the art of using a microphone. If you have ever wanted to perform at
"open mic" concerts, blues jams, or poetry & storytelling slams,
this program is for you! Learn how to use a microphone to perform spoken word
and music with professional musicians, writers, and spoken word
performers. No experience necessary.
Pre-registration is required
for each individual workshop. Sign-ups begin June 5th. To register,
call the library at 860-739-6926 ex. 2.
With the exception of
special needs aides, only tweens & teens enrolled in the program may
attend.
Storytelling Workshop for
Tweens & Teens
Tuesday, July 11th

Learn
how to use a microphone to enhance your storytelling performance. Bring a
folktale, storybook, monologue, or a true life "moth-style" story to
share. No experience necessary.

Poetry Workshop for Tweens
and Teens

Learn
how to perform at poetry slams and spoken word "open mic" events.
Bring an original poem or a favorite poem that someone else wrote. If you are working on an unfinished poem,
bring it along and our guest poet can give you writing advice.

Singing Workshop for Tweens
and Teens
Tuesday, July 25th
2:30 to 3:30pm
Learn how to use a microphone to
show off your voice. Acoustic guitars are welcome, too. We will mostly be
singing Beatles songs, but requests are welcome. No audience. This will be
stress-free and fun!

more! The Library will provide iPads,
but you may bring your own if you prefer.

Pop Open a
Good Book: The 2017 East Lyme Public Library Summer Reading Program
Win prizes for reading books! The more books you read the more chances you
have to win!
Here is how it works:
Anytime after June 5th,
stop by the East Lyme Public Library to pick up your new book bag, reading log and collect
your first prize. Keep track of the books you read in your logbook. (You may
use our logbook or your school's.) Stop by the East Lyme Public Library
beginning June 26th to show us what you have been reading and collect your
reading rewards.
Read 5 books to earn a bronze medal,
20 for silver, and 40 for gold!
Do you prefer to read big, thick books
such as The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
or Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë? For older readers, we will count each 100
pages as one book.
Weekly prize drawings, too!
We invite everyone in the family to
pop open a good book and visit us at the library!
