Congratulations to Cora Muschinsky and Jasper Wright!

We are proud to announce that works by two young filmmakers from the East Lyme Public Library Movie Maker Project will be screened at the New Haven Documentary Film Festival. The films will be featured during the "Middle School Shorts Block" event on Sunday, June 5th at 2:00pm at the Whitney Humanities Center at Yale University, 53 Wall Street in New Haven. For more information, visit nhdocs.com.The event is free and open to the public.

The East Lyme Public Library Movie Maker project is made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered by the Connecticut State Library. Funds have also been provided by the East Lyme Public Library through its Annual Fund Drive. Acclaimed movie director and novelist, Gorman Bechard is the lead instructor and film consultant for the project. Mr. Bechard is the director of 14 feature films including the acclaimed animal rights documentary, A Dog Named Gucci. n Poverty Law center.

Cora Muschinsky's film CSN: Cinema Shot News is a hilarious spoof on cable network news shows. Cora is a fifth grader at East Lyme Middle School.  She enjoys reading and art.  She wants to be a comedy director, or maybe a marine biologist.  While she studies the usual classes, such as math and science, her passion lies in mac-n-cheese and tons of ice cream.  She would like to thank the staff of East Lyme Public Library for offering, and film director Gorman Bechard for instructing the iMovie Makers project.  This was the first time she has ever made a movie or used an iPad.

Jasper Wright's film Wooly’s World is the story of a resilient rescue dog named Wooly Bear. Jasper's dog Wooly has lived in his forever home for almost a year now, and continues to offer exuberant affection to all. Wooly's wagging tail reminds us that Life is Good, in so many ways. Jasper is a 6th grader at East Lyme Middle School. Inspired by Gorman Bechard’s documentary A Dog Named Gucci, Jasper considers himself an advocate for animal welfare.

Cora's film CSN: Cinema Shot News and Jasper's film Wooly's World were created as part of the East Lyme Public Library Movie Maker Project. Acclaimed movie director and novelist, Gorman Bechard is the lead instructor and consultant of the project.

A second film by Jasper will also be shown at the event. Chinawood or Hollywood is a look at the Chinese acquisition of Legendary Entertainment, and explores the cultural implications. Jasper made this film as part of a project for his social studies class at East Lyme Middle School.

The East Lyme Middle School (which is conveniently located across the street from the Library) partnered with the East Lyme Public Library by recruiting students and publicizing the East Lyme Public Library Movie Maker Project.

Outstanding films by Sammi Cohen, Marielle Kan, Jared Linder, Maria McLane, James O'Connor, Michelle Shavnya, Cameron Steward, Erricson Wich, and Zachary Wyatt were also submitted to the New Haven Documentary Film Festival.

The East Lyme Public Library Movie Maker Project continues this summer with two new workshop series for middle school students. For more information about summer program offerings for tweens, please visit the Library's new website, eastlymepubliclibrary.org or call 860-739-6926.
